ApiCOWplexa is an informal network for scientists, veterinarians, students and others that are interested in apicomplexan parasites causing disease in farm animals, including Babesia, Besnoitia, Cryptosporidium, Eimeria, Gregarina, Neospora, Sarcocystis, Theileria and Toxoplasma. The aim is to foster interactions and scientific exchange on a range of topics such as diagnostics, epidemiology and economic impact of these parasites, biodiversity and population genetics, functional -omics and bioinformatics, host-parasite interactions, vaccines and chemotherapeutical options.
Three ApiCOWplexa meetings have taken place so far (Lisbon 2012; Kusadasi 2013; Edinburgh 2015). For details please see past meetings. Overall, 264 delegates, from 35 different countries, participated at least in one of these meetings, presenting in total 147 oral communications and 155 poster presentations. Above all, these meetings have set the stage for informal scientific discussions and initiating cooperations.
We are looking forward to the next ApiCOWplexa meeting, 11-14 October 2017, in El Escorial, Madrid, which takes place in an outstanding setting with an excellent scientific program, and organized by Luis-Miguel Ortega-Mora and his team. This will be another unique occasion to meet old, and find new friends.
